FAQ
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY APPOINTMENT?
Do I need to bring anything with me?
Please bring your insurance card, any records or reports from past ophthalmologist or optometrist visits (if available), your current prescriptions glasses and/or box of contact lenses, and a list of any medications you take.
What are you going to test?
For a comprehensive ophthalmology exam, your vision, intraocular pressures, anterior segment of the eye, retina, and optic nerve will all be examined at a minimum. Your eye muscle movements and pupillary reactions will also be checked. Sometimes additional diagnostic tests and imaging are also performed, depending on your symptoms or exam findings.
What kinds of diseases can you detect?
An annual exam allows the physician to evaluate you for glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, cataract, corneal changes, dry eye, and eye muscle alignment, amongst many other possible diseases. Your eyes manifest your body's health and can reveal much about what is occuring internally.
Do I need a driver?
You will be dilated for your initial visit with us and may be dilated on follow-up exams if the physician needs to re-examine your retina. Plan to have a driver to assist you in these cases, as dilation can last about 4 hours.
How long does the exam take?
Expect to be in the office for about an hour for a initial, comprehensive visit. Follow up visits will be shorter.
